Blu-ray part 2

After a week of looking, I still haven't found a silver Blu-ray drive. I have found black, beige and white; but no silver. What's more, after researching it a little bit more, I am not even sure I want one at all (at least for the time being).

Since I have a very big HDTV in my apartment, I have fairly recently moved my PC into the TV room. Before that I would either stream video from the PC to the TV using XBMC, which unfortunately can't play HD video very reliably due to the lack of memory and processing power on the Xbox.

I also used my Xbox 360 as a Media Center Extender, but frankly - Media Center Extenders are crap. They support very few video files, so you can forget about streaming those DivX or Xvid files (unless you use a conversion tool).

So, now I have my PC plugged directly into the TV, which is great. Media Center is still a pile of crap though as it won't recognise files that I have converted for my iPod. Seriously, Microsoft envisage Media Center being the be all and end all of home entertainment, yet it won't even play files that I can watch on my iPod? Way to go Microsoft!

But the real bitter pill to swallow? Windows Media Center does not support HD-DVD (which Microsoft championed) or even Blu-ray (which won). How the hell can they expect anybody to take it seriously as a contender for the home media center when it is restricted in so many ways?
